At Resonance we think it’s important that our students have an ongoing goal in mind for what they’d like to accomplish when they graduate. Whether it’s through developing their identity as an artist, refining their instrumental and production skills, or understanding the presence they want to establish in the industry, a new journey begins once our students become graduates. Today we’d like to highlight an artist from our first delegation of graduates, Annabel Roberts AKA BELLAMIX, who has recently released her first single Falling For You across streaming platforms.
Annabel originally composed Falling For You as part of her third year Final Major Project at Resonance — her dissertation was a study on House music. She continued engineering the track after graduating, improving its mix and master for the final release, and bringing in fellow graduate Raina Raval to feature on the re-recorded vocals. Raina has released a single of her own earlier this year, Our Song, with the master engineering done by Aiden Baker, who also recently graduated from Resonance. We’re thrilled to see alumni collaborating on their professional work together!
I asked Annabel to explain her influences and processes behind Falling For You and, in her own words, this is what she had to say:
“My inspirations were CamelPhat and Deadmau5, I followed their mixing techniques and style. I’d say the genre is Dance/ House/ EDM mixed with Pop. The lyrics are about a girl falling head over heels for a boy — she’s infatuated and losing her mind over him. I’d describe the song as upbeat with catchy lyrics, and it contains multiple synth layers and a groovy bass line. My mixing techniques involved pan automation, side chain compression and delay.”
Annabel has recently joined West Midlands-based emo-punk band Prairie as their drummer, and we’d like to wish them every success together. We’d also like to wish both Annabel and Raina all the best for their respective single releases! Listen to them below:
